omg omg omg i've been like talking about weed 24/7 recently. Janany and Lawrence can attest to that. esp Lawrence. poor guy. i think he's uber traumatized by me now.
3am in this morning. i was trying to do my bio homework while in the phone with Lawrence with a friggin headache. apparently the question i was trying to work on had to do with nicotine. here's what i asked him:
"Lawrence?'' "yeah?'' "why dont people make like, perfume and/or cologne out of weed..?"
silence.
laughter from Lawrence goes on for 10minutes. i sit there and wonder what the hell is so funny.
3+am in the same morning, and still on the phone. i got really hungry and could feel the gastric juices churning in my tummy, so i opened a bag of ruffles to eat. halfway while eating, i stopped and stared at the remaining chips in the bag.
"Lawrence..?" "um hmmm...?" "why dont people make weed flavoured chips? or opium flavoured ones..?"
silence.
laughter from Lawrence again, but this time he went "JERLYNE!!! STOP THINKING ABOUT WEED!!!'' :[ and i retorted "but what's so wrong about thinking about weed? and these are pretty good questions too!"
next day in school, i couldnt stop linking everything back to weed. from random people walking down the hallway, right to the name of our school, everything had some connection to weed. all thanks to moi :x (name of school -> Richmond Green. colour of weed -> green. so my high school is a school of stoners and drug dealers! which is probably partially true to some extent -___-)
omg i have so many many awesome ideas now, and yes, all weed-related one way or another. like during english class, i was staring blankly at my table (it was like self-study during that period) and this totally brill idea came to mind. i should make a soap line, all weed fragranced! like like weed-scented shampoo and conditioner, weed-scented body soap and/or bubble bath, weed-scented facial wash, weed-scented body lotion... maybe even weed-scented towels to go with all of the above as a gift pack! and i could come up with an opium-scented version of the same stuff too! and weed-scented candles, air fresheners, body deodorants, perfumes/colognes, pens, erasers, markers, stuffed toys... oh the many things that i could make weed-scented! (or opium-scented, as another variation)
and it totally didnt help when the substitute teacher who came in during english was dressed in green from head to toe. no kidding. she was greenALL OVER. from her shirt to her jacket to her pants and socks and shoes, right down to her earrings and rings O.O imagine Lawrence's agony :x i kept telling Lawrence that the teacher had a packet of weed in one of the internal pockets of her jacket, and that she probably would hide her nose with her jacket and take a sniff of the weed in there :D yeah yeah im crazy/evil/creative. whatever! you know ya'll love my ideas :D
oh oh and if you see products anywhere that has weed in it (hemp, as they always print on labels), they probably took my idea. but most of those products dont actually smell like weed, so that busines is still open for me :D anyone wanna help me out in this venture? we can split profits and stuff :D
Lawrence Chu, see what you've done to me! everything i talk about links back to either weed/crack/xtc/some other random drug that you talk about :x
no seriously. there are some good genes in the family flying around, i've realised. but i never got any of them!!! seriously! people think my mum's mongolian/malay mixed blood/ whatever they think she is, and occasional japanese tourists think my dad's japanese. wth. and me? pui. look like some ugly crap. why??? someone please tell me whyyyyyyy......
well i did inherit the sucky stuff from my parents, like my mother's sinus problems and my dad's eczematic skin. tamade why why why... but whatever, enough rant from ugly me. this entry is on the pretty gorgeous relatives who got the better genes in the family :[
an aunt/cousin of mine (i know how she's related to me la, but it's so complicated!!!), is drop dead gorgeous. seriously. what's my definition of drop dead gorgeous?
a drop dead gorgeous person (since im a girl, i'll talk in reference about girls in general) is a person who looks good at any time of the day, at any angle, with any expression on their face. in candid shots, with or without makeup, with their hair up or down.
those kind of people who just can photographed the whole damn day without professional makeup artists and people to adjust the lighting for them, and every single shot will still turn out good. taking pictures for them means stay still and click.
for other people (eg. me) it's put on makeup, fix hair, get the proper lighting, face must be at the correct angle, eyes must be widened enough, cannot smile too widely, fringe must cover a slight bit of the face, head cannot tilt too much, blah blah... you get the idea.
cut the chatter, and let me show you what my definition of gorgeous is. you may agree with me or not, but hey, it's my blog! :p and no, i will not intro her to you even if you begged.
how many of us can do this? how many???
sorry for the blurry, but as you can see it doesnt affect her gorgeousness
candid shot of my cousin/aunt laughing. again, how many of us can pull this off?
so sweet isnt she? and i can guarantee that she doesnt photoshop her pictures and put on like hundreds of layers of makeup. what you're looking at is 100% natural prettiness!
and im certain that she's not the kind who goes "ehhh this shot sucks! take again!" and keeps retaking pics till she's satisfied. and she's definitely not the kind, who when is about to get her photo taken, goes "hey wait wait! lemme arrange my hair and makeup first!'' and starts asking people if her head is tilted a nice angle. nope, she's not the kind (unlike me :[)
and now, i have another pretty cousin from australia nia. i used to think she was average looking, but after seeing these pictures, i have so changed my mind.
these pictures were taken by her friend who needed more photos added into his portfolio, and he asked if she could model for him! tadah~
chio!
she's wearing a tube la, not naked!
pretty isnt she? not photoshopped either!
okay so maybe her eyes are super tiny in this shot, but still! :]
you can view all the pictures from that photoshoot here.
and me, the runt of the family? (actually, it's the ugly of the family.) much as i camwhore a lot, hardly any shots come out nice, even after photoshopping. why? cos im that freaking ugly nia. the only thing that can probably save me is cosmetic surgery, but then again i dont wanna be a michael jackson #2 :x yeah im ugly and stubborn. wow what a combination.
so yeah after going through all the pictures i've camwhored of myself, this is the hottest/prettiest/whateverest picture i can find. and it still looks awful, even after photoshopping.
you ready for it?

i love this the most. the guys are gawking at my most artistic photo, just like you are :D
so go now. or this cat will du lan you too. i'll just pout in complete upsetness :/
you know, i've been thinking of renaming my blog. i mean, "a sip of life. MY LIFE." sounds a little intimidating of some sort to people who arrive here for the first time. maybe. i should change my blog's content/title/whateveryoucallit to... the misadventures of a Singaporean-born Canadian who moved back to Canada but now has problems because of her Singaporean upbringing.
or maybe not. what a mouthful. or handful, considering it's more of typed that said. forget it then. a sip of life it is (still).
so anyways, like said, with me all new here and stuff, there's bound to be weird things (well weird to me, maybe not to those raised here) that happen to me here. lets take one example, from school, as i spend so damn bloody much time there. (not like it's a bad thing, but neither is it a superb thing, so yeah.)
this happened one fine sunny day during lunch, when Lawrence and i were sitting at my locker having lunch (as usual), talking about weed, gay people (no i dont have anything against homos, in fact i find them fun to hang with :D), and peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches (as usual). oh right, before i move on, i must describe the location of my locker. it's in this hallway that's pretty isolated, not many people enter and exit the school from there (partly cos they lock the doors from the outside on some days -___-"), and just so very nicely, it's dead straight infront of theguys' washroom.
no kidding. if i turn 180degrees from facing my locker to facing forward, the first thing i see is the entrance to the guys' washroom. and any guy who's about the exit the washroom will see me. how wth. and not only that, there's a rubbish bin there that stares straight at me too. so yeah. i see guys and trash all the time. sighs. hmmm wonder if that's a sign... i would eat lunch at Lawrence's locker instead, but there's a Korean clique near there, so nah. spaces, man, spaces...
so as we were having our oh-so-usual lunch and nonsense, this totally random guy who was sitting along the hallways lunching, went up to the guys' washroom with his trash balled up in his hands, obviously with the intention to throw it away.
BUT. before he did that, he turned behind and looked at me, and went "this is why i made the basketball team." stopped to aim and then shot it in. pretty nicely too, may i add. okay, so Lawrence and i were like "yeah that's pretty good..."and as soon as the guy walked off, we stared at each other and went "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ABOUT???"
like hello, 2 people eating lunch and minding their own business, having -100% of any knowledge of who you aredo not carethat you made the basketball team or not, or whether you can shoot your garbage into the bin. as long as you dont drop it on us, it's fine. but seriously,we dont care. in fact, it makes you look cocky, completely random and an absolute weirdo. and no, that's not the way to make a first impression, dear sir.
steve mentioned i should say something like "an apple a day keeps the weirdos away." now, if only the world worked like that. i'd be healthy with good bowels and weirdo-free. but alas, the world is not so. *snap snap* *reality suddenly appears* even if i ate 10 apples a day, no doubt leading me to having diarrhea, that would not still eliminate my chances of running into weirdos on a daily basis. (okay la, im not that unlucky. weekly basis, i meant :]) plus apples arent that cheap either, and lao niang still hasn't found a job lor.
im thinking of bringing a purse full of pennies. everytime a weirdo comes up to me and tries to hao lian/show off/bug me/touch me/whatever to do with me, i will give him/her a penny and go, "here, have a penny and save your weirdness for yourself! nice meeting you!" and if they get insulted, i'll tell them, "hello!! i just gave you a penny for acting weird! can be a bit more grateful or not?!?!?!", while whisking that very blessed penny out from their hands and shoving it into their mouth/nose (but preferably mouth, to shut them up deftly).
but that will mean i'll have to start bringing gloves around too, as no way do i want to get my hands tainted from salivas of strangers *shudders* if anyone else has a better suggestion of dealing with weirdos, do feel free to do so (via the comment at the end of the entry). and if i sound mean, im sorry. but this entry will only sound mean if you're a weirdo too, who bugs me :] *hint hint*
p.s: no this entry is not done by Stephen Luu, and neither was the outline of it done by him. it was done by ME, bitches. it's just that i was asking him for ideas on what to blog about, and he told me that i should blog about this incident, along with his famous phrase that "an apple a day keeps the weirdos away", which has now sadly been pwned :D
its REALLY late to say this, but happy thanksgiving everyone! and stop eating turkeys for thanksgiving la... very nice to eat meh..? i find the taste of turkey meat very unusual, and i dont mean unusual like nice/exotic unusual. i mean like damn weird/not nice unusual. seriously. i remember having my first try of it last year, during thanksgiving too. i took quite a lot of it (cos the damn gravy smelled so deceivingly good), and bam! that was one of the worst dishes that dinner :/
turkey has this weird chemical-ish aftertaste to me, like how mutton does. (mutton curry eaters might be able to relate!) and not sian meh? every thanksgiving eat turkey... i would get kinda bored of it!
besides, can you really bear to eat something that used to look like this when it was younger?
betcha cant now, after seeing these :D btw, pictures are fromcuteoverload.com. TOO AH-DORA-BUHLS! :D oh no now im speaking C.O language too :x
sooo anyways, interesting thanksgiving i've had so far. no turkey, no meeting up with parents' university friends, no (weird) church parties... blah blah. but, i've had other things this thanksgiving.
went to the Falls on saturday (yes Niagara Falls, you), broke up with boyfriend, 24 hours later we got back together again, kissed a girl in church, watched (Jackie Chan) movies every night, got hooked on cuteoverload.com, got my period (oh gosh), tried putting on a tampon (for the 4th time) and succeeding (yay!)... aiyoh so many things... so lets just go by the order i typed.
after like 2months+ of begging and pleading and hinting to my parents, we finally went to Niagara. like finally! happy dee doo :] how can one live in Canada and not go see what it's famous for, right? unfortunately we didnt get do and see and much as we hoped cos my parents bought like package tours -___-" so we had to go to those 4 tourist hot spots or else it'd be a waste of money blehhhhh. so constrained i tell you. it fet more like we were doing the amazing race rather than going on a tour :/ but all the same, Niagara didnt fail to stun and wow. pictures will be coming up soon in another entry. and i am so amazed that my camera is still functioning okay after getting continually sprayed by the mists from the Falls! *pats the faithful camera* oooh oooh and i bought a First Nation necklace from there too (well from a souvenir shop la okay?)
my parents kinda think im crazy cos im so obsessed about First Nation things. there's something so stirring about them, something that draws me to it. African cultures, Australian aboriginals, South American tribes... yeah you name them, and i'll tell you i've heard of them before and i have some interest in them. sometimes i actually wished that part of my heritage was First Nation. yes yes i am AWARE that im weird, thankyou very much. anyways the necklace i bought was one with a turtle pendant. for one, i like turtles *squeals* and for another, it's interesting what the turtle meant to the First Nation peoples.
The Turtle:
The Turtle symbolizes Mother Earth. Many North American Indians call the continent of North America, Turtle Island. Once there was only water and no place for people and animals to live. Tradition says Mother Earth was created on the back of the Turtle. The Turtle made a great sacrifice and let everyone come and live on her back. Turtle medicine conveys the ability to live life and conduct yourself in a protected and safe way. If a Turtle has come to you it may be saying that you need to protect yourself from people and events that seek to throw you off balance and make you vulnerable. Because of the Turtle's slow inert movement, the Turtle also symbolizes patience and intelligence. Take your time, be patient and make wise decisions.
cool or not? yes yes? i see fellow turtle lovers nodding their heads in profuse agreement :D and speaking of wise decisions, i think i made a pretty dumb one on saturday.
yes my boyfriend and i broke up for like 24hours. im not going to go through the sequence of events that led to the breaking point (haha), but the 24hours of singlehood was actually really painful. i was actually hoping that neither of us meant it, because i've always relied on him heavily, and breaking up would've well, driven me crazy had it been permanent. i talked to 2 guy friends, who helped try to cheer me up (you know who you are). later i talked with boyfriend and we both realized we/i didnt mean it at all. it was just mentioned out of anger and frustration. we're both taking some time out, giving each other a week off (no calls & text messages), and after that things will go back to the regular mushy-mushy stuff :] whew so glad it's all worked out! i was kinda worried that he would kill my babies (baby terrapins that i left in his care) out of spite, even though im sure he's not that kind of guy :x
ummm yeah i kissed a girl, namelyMelody Chang. and guess where the dirty deed took place? in church. why the heck? for camwhoring sakes' :D dont believe me? here's zee proof:
. . . . . . . .
i kissed a girl and i liked it.
but no i am not lesbian. it was purely for fun. but it did feel a lil weird cos it was my first time kissing another girl on the lips haha! in anycase, i am loving this picture! so hot, sexy and attention-grabbing, no? (i love attention, deal with it)
oh yeah. on friday after school ended, i decided to borrow some movies from the school/public library to watch over the long weekend. you know, chill a bit. earlier on during my spare, i spotted a Rush Hour 3 dvd. why i didnt borrow it immediately, i dont know. but when i went back after school, it was gone! *devastated* but i managed to find Shanghai Knights and The Tuxedo :D i got Hitch as well :] why Jackie Chan movies? umm... cos most of them are not serious? heehee im so dim :x Shanghai Knights wasn't too bad. it reminded me a little of the Singapore accent, courtesy of Fann Wong who plays Jackie Chan's sister. yeah her acting's pretty good actually, didnt know that... The Tuxedo was funny, but i didnt find it as entertaining as Shanghai Knights, somehow. yet to watch Hitch :x
im not going to say much about cuteoverload.com. just click on the link and check it out yourself! it covers so many animals, from the common ones like kittens, puppies and hamsters, to the more unusual ones like giraffes, red pandas and beluga whales! so what are you waiting for? need some cheering up? go tocuteoverload.comnow!! :D
omg periods.how many ladies out there dread their periods? im pretty sure lots of you do (unless you're really sexually active then it might be something you look forward to :] unless you want to have a baby...) so yeah i got mine today (pfft...), and boy did it put me into automatic sleep mode, like it always does -___-" why arh... i know some people get back pains during their periods, or cramps, headaches, nausea, pain in the breasts, and other stuff like that. i've always wondered why. cramps and PMS i can understand, but the rest? nah just dont make sense to me.
so anyways, i tried putting on (or in, whatever) a tampon, for like the 4th timein my life. the first 2 times i tried and failed, really badly. if i remember correctly, each time took like 40mins, and the tampon still wouldnt stay in. the 3rd time was with help from boyfriend. all 3 times hurt so hell bad, i have no clue why. damn it la, how come other girls can (younger than me some more), i cannot? buay song, so i tried again today.
it wasnt too bad i suppose, took me 20 bloody (pun!) minutes to get it in. felt kinda painful as well :( but not as bad as the first 3 times. maybe it's because the flow was much heavier. heavier flow = more fluid = more lubrication = easier to go in right? (oei stop thinking dirty!) so yeah. but the subsequent ones took around 10minutes. still long, but better :] but omg, pulling it out is disgusting. im not even gonna describe what a used tampon looks like *gags*
but the point is, YAY! i have finally learned how to use tampons! whoo! man, i feel like a woman! okay exaggeration there. why would i need to learn how to use tampons in order to feel like a woman right? but hey, bye bye to gross sticky pad days! whee! dry, happy periods, here i come! you scare me no more :D *goes hyperly insane*
hmmm what else... oh yeah it was SO nice and warm this weekend! wished we had sort of an "indian summer" day every week :] yes i miss the Singaporean climate can? :p i hate being cold, and having noone to hug :/
yupyup that's all the crap for today! hope all had a happy thanksgiving (better still if turkeyless), and ugh, back to school we go...
p.s: OMG OMG OMG. next friday is a PA day!!! can you scream HAPPYYYYYYYY with me? :D 2 short weeks in a row! whoo! and i might cover the Canadian elections as well, though i didnt vote despite the fact that i am indeed elligible to do so :] dont wanna vote for the wrong party and end up being responsible for the potential screw-up of this country. it's the guilt feeling you know? but i am waiting for the 3rd and final US presidential debate! can someone tell me when it'll be? really excited for some reason...
p.p.s: i shall end off with another list of needs and to-gets! 1) learn how to put on fake eyelashes! (MUST) 2) get a job. either at Timmies or some place near my house. 3) find the book for English ISU. (dieeeeeee) 4) find a petshop that sells turtles! (or terrapins, to be more precise. red-eared sliders!) 5) focus more on studies! must get out of slack cycle! 6) findthis camera! then get it! :DDDD lalala~~ 7) learn to give meself manicures! improve current social life!
so... anyways, i mentioned in a previous post of mine that i joined nuffnang.com, an online community for bloggers, by bloggers. and the best part is they help you earn from your blog! i won't make this sound like an advertorial, so if you're interested, check it out yourself! BUT. if you have any intention of joining, do keep in mind that it's only available in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
'but you are in Canada! why/how the heck you join?' you ask me.
because. i am able to provide a name of a local payee and the address of that payee (boyfriend la haha!). so unless you can do the same thing as i did (and know that the person is fully trustworthy) go ahead and sign up! oh and i haven't made money from nuffnang la, cos my readership not high enough :[ sad eh?
okay back to topic. nuffnang helps me track my daily stats, such as how many people have visited my blog today, where are they from, keywords from searches, and who referred me. obviously daily ones are pretty sucky so i shall not mention them. pui.
but on checking my weekly stats, i was quite surprised. well in a very nice way la.
for this week, these are my stats of which countries my readers originate from: Singapore - 55.2% Canada - 35.8% United States - 6% Malaysia - 1.5% Australia - 1.5%
WAAAAAAAA. i damn happy can??? people in Malaysia and the States visit my blog??? song boh?! i can account for Singapore, Canada and Australia, cos i have friends and cousins in these countries. but Malaysia and the United States? wa happy like siao... *dances around room throwing penguin collection in air to "My Heart Will Go On"*
yes i am THAT happy. doesny matter what song is in the background, i'll dance to it! but no, i WILL NOT. i repeat. WILL NOT make a video of me dancing and put it up here, it's too horrifying. later scare all of you away then jialat.
but i just wanna say thankyou to those who visit, be it on a regular basis or not. a new post is coming up, but it's taking so long cos it's pretty research-based! (ya it's on health)
say what..? oh nevermind... where's that Lancelot???
okay that's all for now... im pretty satisfied now with all those quizzes i did :D but im pretty buay song, cos they didnt have a "Are You A Camwhore?" quiz. so i sent that in as a suggestion! hopefully they'll do that up, then me andMelcan do take it! :D sorry if i bored anyone so badly that they clicked the tiny x on the top right hand corner of their screen :x me needs self-entertainment ma, since i have no life here =.="
and when im hella bored, i talk about only one thing (okay mainly one thing):
HAIR EXTENSIONS!!!!!!!!
haha yes. lately i've been going crazy over them, dont ask why. maybe it's because...
my hair has hardly grown since i came to Canada???
oei not funny lar. im serious. i think it's grown only... 3cmat the most. in 2months. which is kinda slow for my hair. in Singapore, i could have a chin-length bob at the start of january, and have hair that's halfway down my back by december. eh that's fast okay. that's like um... 20+cm (give and take) in 12months. pretty fast lor if u ask me. let's do some math now. let's make that 20+ a nice number, say 24. so 24cm divided by 12months...
OEI. 2CM IN 1MONTH LEH. here? 2CM IN 3MONTHS. do i see a discrepancy in the numbers here? i bet you do too.
well, my biology classmates came up with a logical explanation, and yeah it does make a whole lot of sense. the theory: it's crap dry in Canada, which affects the growth of hair. and thus affecting the speed/rate of growth! tadah!!! yeah doesn't it make sense? in Singapore it was so freakin hot and humid, so everything was perfectly okay. but here it's the other way round, so my hair would be taking quite some time to adapt to the environment. yay i have an explanation now, so i can stop cursing and being pissed at my short hair :D
the problem solver? EXTENSIONS. like duh, double duh, triple duh. but in Canada it seems pretty expensive, and i have to go like those huge-ass malls to get them, which are so damned far for someone who doesn't have a license (don't laugh la... please..?).
so yesterday night i was browsing through some random shopblogs that are based in Singapore (where else yo?), and i came across one that fulfilled my heart's desires. go go, go have a look. and many of the things there are cheap too. note that i say cheap, not affordable. affordable means that (in my lingo) it fits exactly into your budget/estimation of how much something seems to cost. cheap means it's well, cheaper than what you budgeted/estimated.
and and this shopblog sells hair extensions too! YAY. huge-ass clip on ones that are really long too (45cm long for straight hair, and 12cm across). i immediately begged my hubby to buy them for me, since it's based in Singapore. haha he agreed! wonder if he's filled out the order form yet...
see? so easy to put on!!! :D
omg it's so freakin longg!!! *drools*
anyways im hoping to get them soon, cos i really cant stand having hair that hasn't grown :[ i know, sounds like a wig eh? :[[ booooo... yaya i know, mean of me to make my hubby pay for something for me right? i will transfer money to him la (once i get the hang of it :x). but how to i transfer money from a canadian account to a singaporean account arh..? tsk tsk it's so annoying when there are so many different currencies and stuff, and you have to constantly watch out for the exchange rates and stuff.
okay back to the hair extensions. no. to be honest, i doubt 2 extensions that measure 12cm across is enough for me. i want like, LOTS AND LOTS of extensions! haha like how Wendy Cheng had a hundred! i want those cool coloured ones... maybe something like... unltramarine and deep purple! whoots! way cool yo! haha scare the heck outta my parents :p damn i know im hella mean eh :D
tsk but they're only available at those huge huge malls that are so far far away (do i sound like a character from shrek..?) . so coloured extensions will have to wait for the time being. but the hard part is getting those that arent overpriced. many things here (apologies to any patriotic Canadian!) are really quite overpriced, in all honesty. but i guess the one good thing is that there are lots of dollarstores here to make up for that. but still! they dont sell hair extensions there :[ ya la, i wish la, hair extensions so cheap :x but what i meant are those kinds of extensions made of tiny bunches of long long hairs and dyed/higlighted to the wackiest of col0urs :D if i can find them at low prices, i'll buy like, um, 10 of them? :D i might even buy a pink one just for the fun of it.
(to those who dont already know, pink is my MOST HATED COLOUR.)
why do the extensions on this website look so hella cool? oh wait let me show you...
cool huh? swarovski crystals leh. dont play play with me here.
that's boring you say? only bling bling but no colour?
bling it on, yo. real human hair, with swarovski crystals. now that's real ice :D
now this is what im talking about! whee!~
and um.... this is not. are you ready?

this on the other hand, looks a little scary to me. in fact, i got shocked when i first saw this picture haha!
but unfortunately i cant seem to be able to buy the products from the website just like that. you need to call them or something, which i am kinda lazy to do cos they're located in HOLLAND. sighs... back to the natural brown extensions from Singapore and hunting for coloured ones here. SIANNED -__-"
hubby you'd better be reading this arh *hint hint wink wink* okays so enough with the whole hairy talk, later those who are reading this become hair extension phobic or something HAHA :x does this sound like an advertorial? well, this isnt really, but im just promoting hair extensions! whee~ get them today people, and discover the wonders of having a head-turning crowning glory without having to damage it through dyeing/highlighting/bleaching :D mwahahahaha...
